Native Milk, an India based milk dairy company, reached out to us during the lockdown to digitize their business. We faced a variety of challenges that are faced by anyone in the food tech industry.

Challenge at the Start

Accepting the Orders

Problem

Native Milk received diverse orders from a variety of customers — each with different delivery schedules and product combinations.

Solution

We developed a mobile app for customers with multiple order types:

Subscription Based

  • Milk delivery for every day of the month
  • Eggs every Friday
  • Curd every alternate day

Customer registration with customizable subscription orders — e.g. milk 5 weekdays + bread every Thursday.

Single Orders

A random order without a subscription purchase — optional registration required.

Problem

Native Milk wanted an interface to easily process the order and track its payment status.

We developed an admin panel to manage the whole order cycle from receiving to delivering.

Challenge of Logistics

Drivers Changing Frequently & Route Optimization

Problem

Native Milk always had to deal with route optimization to maximize profit and the frequent changing of delivery boys — manageable offline but a major headache when the business went digital.

  • Need to start from scratch for every new driver to inform about regular customers.
  • Extra cost in fuel and logistics as drivers repeated routes and wasted time.

Solution

We developed a mobile application for drivers with route optimization. The total delivery area is divided into routes and orders are sorted accordingly — each driver is assigned a single route.

  • No problem if staff is new — orders are assigned by route, driver doesn't need customer data.
  • Saves cost by 3× as drivers do not repeat routes during delivery.

Example

  1. Native Milk takes ₹10 per order for shipping.
  2. One route of 5 km has 4 orders → ₹40 collected from customers.
  3. One driver assigned the route takes ₹20 for 5 km.
  4. Native Milk makes a profit of ₹40 − ₹20 = ₹20.

Total travelling reduced from 70 km / 5 hrs daily → ~55 km / 4 hrs 30 mins.

Challenge of Accounting

Reconciliation of Cash-on-Delivery Orders

Problem

A difference was observed between what the customer claimed to pay and what the delivery boy reported.

  • Manual reconciliation of cash payments took a lot of time.
  • Room for calculation mistakes as accounting was done on paper by hand.
  • Opportunity of fraud by customer or delivery person.

Solution

We added a Cash-on-Delivery option in the admin panel with OTP assigned to every delivery person.

We were able to provide a comprehensive solution to Native Milk's problems for all the challenges faced in the order cycle — from customer delivery to final payment confirmation. We covered logistics, accounting, and all aspects of the business, making it easier for them to not only survive the harsh effects of lockdown but grow their business and turn chaos into an opportunity.
